To See You As You Really Are

“What we think about God is the single most important thing in our spiritual journey. Our image of God will drive every single part of our life and declare how we show up in the world.”
– Graham Cooke from THE NATURE OF GOD

The childish ideas we form in relationship with our parents shape how we see and perceive God. In order to grow in our relationship with God, we have to deal with these misperceptions. They stand in between God and us, and they hinder our ability to trust Him.

At the end of a prayer ministry training session Cindy and I were taking years ago, we broke up in small groups to pray. There was a crafted prayer that contained many of the ideas in this song. After praying through that prayer, my prayer overflowed into what I knew were lyrics for a song. Two days later, the melody came together along with some final adaptations to the lyrics.

Every time I sing this song, I feel the Lord call me deeper into relationship with Him. Surprisingly, I keep finding childish pictures still hiding inside. Nevertheless, since it is God’s Spirit revealing it to me, He gives me the grace to release those and embrace more of the truth.

“Trust is the fruit of a relationship in which we know we are loved by God. When we choose to live loved, we might not always understand what God is doing, but we will still trust Him.”
– Wm. Paul Young from THE SHACK
